The Amish Should be Ashamed of Themselves!

Puppy mills. You know they're wrong, I know they're wrong. But did you know the Amish are running some of the biggest puppy mills in this country and they're in Ohio and Indiana? Who would have thunk the people known for doing the right thing and living by a code of ethics would create a hell on earth for dogs?

They mostly deal in small breeds were they can keep dogs confined in small cages stacked one on top of the other. No medical care, no flea treatment, no ability to run in grass, no life for a dog.

Don't buy from pet stores! I know a lot of people ask me "Well, what happens to that dog if I don't buy it?" What happens is that another dog isn't put in its place to whine and cry, afraid and alone. By not buying that one little puppy in the pet store, you're saving the next one. Fewer demand, fewer puppy mill dogs in the pet store.

I know they're cute. I used to buy gardening items at Alsip Nursery in St. John, IN but I will NOT support any store that sells dogs, especially from so called breeders. It's hard to walk by and see them in those wire floor cages, but I see the effects of breeding every single day through rescue. Breeding kills. It's expensive, it's unreliable, and it kills shelter dogs.

Oppose all pet store dog sales and help put puppy mills to an end. Never buy from a pet store! Too many lives depend on it!

Spay and Neuter

This is why you should spay and neuter your pets. There are many low cost options available, so not getting your pets altered is no longer an excuse.

baseball

Is it summer yet? I can't wait for baseball to start! It's time to sit on the third baseline and watch some minor league baseball! I just learned the other day that the Dayton Dragons are the most successful minor leage team--and the most successful team attendance wise in all of sports history. That's amazing! I want to go see them!

hey, click on the ads!

Click on the ads below to help animal rescue! Since blogging is fun and not nearly as difficult as meeting a deadline (which I should be doing now...) I'm donating the money I make from my google ads to rescue. So if you see something you like, click on it and help dogs in shelters get out alive!

Above is a pile of puppies saved last year! These airedale mixes were brought in together and nearly put to sleep together but donations helped save their lives. Rosco, Fergus, and Katie were just cute as can be, friendly, but also brought in after the holidays when it's hard for dogs to find a home no matter how good they are or how cute they happen to be.

They all went to good homes and I still hear from Katie's family. They spoil her rotten! Click on the google ads to get more dogs like these off death row and into homes.

One Last Kiss info

Heath Ledger Dead

What sad news to learn an actor with such talent may have committed suicide. I don't remember ever hearing a tremendous amount of gossip about Heath Ledger, so to hear he'd been found dead was shocking and sad. From A Knight's Tale to Brokeback Mountain, he was a tremenously talented person. To think of what more he could have given us as an actor is really disheartening.

I wasn't planning on seeing the next Batman movie but I think I will now, just to see one of his very last performances.

Global Warming

Due to the extreme cold in the Chicagoland area I've been thinking a lot about Global Warming, and tonight on CBS (60 Minutes) they had a full hour about global warming and how we, as the entire human race, need to take better care of the planet.

It's frightening what's happened to the environment and how much worse it will get. We've done so much damage that we can't undo the melting ice on the north pole or the shrinking glaciers in the south.

So we know about global warming. Now we have to change the way we live and the way our children live or else they won't have a liveable planet. Buying environmentally sound products from green companies like Evo and Seventh Generation, two of my favorites. Change light bulbs to the long lasting kind. Buy rechargable batteries. Get a hybrid vehicle, walk, or use public transportation. Buy trees to plant--companies like Giam offer you the opportunity to add trees to your order, which they plant).

Talking about global warming isn't enough. We need to act. Now.

Layla needs a new home!

Check out my website to see how you can help Layla and other dogs just like her get off death row and into foster care. Her date to be killed is January 24th. You can also see her on
by searching for zip code 46319.

If you can't adopt right now, consider donating even a few dollars to help defray costs from her spay and shots. She's just one of many dogs out there in need of a home--and remember to spay and neuter your own pets and help reduce the pet population. Fewer unwanted puppies and kittens means fewer dogs and cats put to sleep. In many shelters, kittens are killed as soon as they're done nursing since "if they're old enough to eat dry food, they're old enough to die". Oppose the death penalty! Have your pets altered now!

2nd Runner Up for Sex Between Strangers

Woo hoo! Okay, so it doesn't sound that impressive to be a second runner up in, well, anything, but I'm very pleased with the reception SEX BETWEEN STRANGERS received this past year. It had a lot of good reviews and now Book Utopia Mom put it on her best list for erotic romance fiction. It's the only short story on there, so I'm way pleased!

Thank you, Book Utopia, for compiling a list!
